In April 1944 Dan was enlisted in a forced labor unit. In September he escaped with another eleven comrades with the help of documents provided by the movement and arrived in Budapest, where he found refuge. Dan joined the movement’s underground activities. He ran various errands and delivered food to the “Glass House”. After the war Dan was one of the leaders of “Hashomer Hatzair” in Hungary. He was an instructor for the children in the movement’s children’s house. He wrote poems and did translations from Hebrew and world literature.
Dan made aliya in 1949 and joined Kibbutz Ga’aton. He lost his life in a tractor accident.
A collection of his poems and translations was published by the “Society for Research of the History of the Zionist Youth Movements in Hungary” in : “Happiness, Sorrow and Age” (2003).
